Hornet Track teams sweep Canton

The Wellsboro Track & Field teams continued their strong 2021 season with a pair of wins over Canton on Friday, April 23.

The boys won 80-63 while the girls won 86-58.

Sophomores Sam Rudy (17.6) and Kyle Mosher (24.4) swept the 110m hurdles, sophomore Jack Poirier (11.4) and senior Joseph Grab (11.5) took the top two spots in the 100m, junior Owen Richardson (5:16.9) won the 1600m, Rudy (47.7) won the 300m hurdles, Richardson (2:18.0) won the 800m, Poirier (24.3) won the 200m, and junior Gabe Guignard (12:57.3) won the 3200m.

Sophomore Wyatt Gastrock (94-ft, 9) was 2nd in the discus with junior Justice Harlan (88-ft, 11) in 3rd, Harland (36-ft, 4.5) was 2nd in the shot put, and Gastrock (117-ft, 11) and Harlan (106ft, 1) were 1st and 2nd in the javelin. Poirier (18-ft, 9.25) won the long jump, Rudy (36-ft, 3.25) was 2nd in the triple jump, and Harlan (5-ft, 2) was 2nd in the high jump.

Wellsboro won the 4x800 (9:48.4) and was 2nd in the 4x400 (4:00.0).

The Lady Hornets swept the 100m hurdles with senior Kathryn Burnett (19.8), freshman Hannalee Cleveland (20.6) and sophomore Ella Posada (22.1) taking 1st-3rd, junior Hannah Morey (13.9) won the 100m, freshman Emma Davis (7:12.5) was 3rd in the 1600m, freshman Emily Richardson (1:12.2) was 2nd in the 400m with senior Alexis Banik (1:12.8) in 3rd, Burnett (59.6) was 2nd in the 300m hurdles, senior Aislinn Hoose (3:02.3) was 3rd in the 800m, and Morey (31.1) and sophomore Kate DeCamp (31.6) were 2nd and 3rd in the 200m.

Senior Kiyah Boyce (68-ft, 3) and junior Emma Coolidge (67-ft, 3) were 1st and 2nd in the discus, Boyce (29-ft, 4) was 2nd in the shot, and Coolidge (92-ft, 11) and senior Alina Pietrzyk (81-ft, 1) took 1st and 2nd in the javelin.

Senior Madelyn Rudy (13-ft, 1.25) won the long jump, Pietrzyk (26-ft, 11.25) won the triple jump, junior Sara Abadi (4-ft, 8) won the high jump, and Hannah Nuss (5-ft) was 2nd in the pole vault.

Wellsboro won the 4x800m (12:38.4) and the 4x100m (58.6).

Both teams are back in action on Tuesday, April 27 at Athens.
