Lady Hornets Suffer 2-0 Rain-Shortened Deafeat At Athens

A pair of runs in the bottom of the third inning was all the Athens Lady Wildcat Softball team needed to earn a victory over Wellsboro Thursday afternoon.

Rain ended the game after the 5th inning.

With two outs, Gretchen Hiley drew a walk for Athens, followed by a double by Maddy Hiley to put the Lady Wildcats up 1-0. Maddy Hiley scored on a triple by McKenna Jarvis. Maddy Hiley and Jarvis recorded the only two hits in the game for Athens.

Sophomore Adelyn Frantz had the only hit for the Lady Hornets on a double in the first inning.

Gretchen Hiley got the win for the Lady Wildcats with 13 strikeouts.

Frantz struck out 9 to go along with a walk and 2 hits.

The Lady Hornets fall to 0-2 (0-2 NTL Large School Division). The team is back in action Monday for their home-opener against Sayre.
