The Wellsboro Varsity Softball team made short work of Coudersport in non-league play Saturday morning, shutting out the Lady Falcons 18-0 in 4 innings for their second straight win.
The Lady Hornets got on the scoreboard early as freshman Haylie Smith reached base on an error then scored as sophomore Adelyn Frantz flew out to drive her home. Wellsboro added a pair of runs in the 3rd as sophomore Teagan Novinger and freshman Gena Fleming both crossed home plate, increasing the lead to 3-0.
Wellsboro's offense exploded in the 3rd and the 4th, plating 15 runs in two innings. Wellsboro scored nine runs in the 3rd and six in the 4th.
The Lady Hornets had 7 hits on the day, led by Novinger (2-for-2) and Fleming (2-for-4). Both drove in 2 runs each. Smith (1-for-3), sophomore Kaylee Frazier (1-for-3) and freshman Paityn Biery (1-for-1) added the remaining hits.
Smith, Frantz and sophomore Madalynn Flannery all scored 3 runs apiece, Fleming scored twice in the game, and sophomore Rylee Coolidge, sophomore Delaney Morral, freshman Emaleigh Hamblin, Novinger, Frazier, junior Mazie Johnson, and sophomore Lacie Brutsman made up the rest.
Smith, Frantz, Hamblin, Biery and Brutsman also drove in solo runs.
Frantz threw a no-hitter and stuck out 8 batters with just one walk in two and two-thirds innings of work to pick up her 7th win of the season. Fleming also threw one and a third innings, keeping the no-hitter intact.
Wellsboro improves to 8-9 (4-8 NTL Large School Division) and are back on the field Tuesday at Williamson.
