The Wellsboro Varsity Softball team qualified for post-season content as they got revenge on an earlier-season loss to Wyalusing for their fourth straight win Friday afternoon.
The Lady Hornets defeated the Lady Rams, 11-4, for their 10th win of the season, their first double-digit wins in a season since 2021 (15-6).
Wellsboro took an early lead with three runs in the first, scored by freshman Haylie Smith and sophomores Rylee Coolidge and Adelyn Frantz. Wyalusing quickly countered, scoring all 4 of their runs in the top of the 2nd to go in front. Wellsboro rallied for the go-ahead runs from junior Mazie Johnson and senior Harleigh Cleveland in the bottom half of the inning to put the Lady Hornets in front, 5-4. Cleveland and Smith scored in the 4th to extend the lead to 7-4 before Smith, Coolidge, Frantz and sophomore Hannah Taylor scored in the 6th.
The Lady Hornets produced 5 hits on the afternoon, led by Frantz (2-for-3, 4 RBIs, triple). Coolidge, Novinger, and sophomore Kaylee Frazier added the three remaining hits. Coolidge, sophomore Delaney Morral, sophomore Teagan Novinger, and freshman Gena Fleming all drove in runs.
Frantz threw a one-hitter for her 9th win of the season from the mound. She walked 7 and struck out 12 to surpass 200 strikeouts on the season.
The Lady Hornets are now 10-9 (6-8 NTL Large School Division). The team is back in action for the final time in the regular season Tuesday at Williamson.
