Wellsboro's Junior High Softball team split a doubleheader Wednesday afternoon with Cowanesque Valley.
The young Lady Hornets suffered an 11-5 loss in game one, but rebounded to win game two, 16-12.
Wellsboro had just three hits in the first game, one each from Brooke Coolidge - a two-run home run in the 2nd, Devan Fairbanks, and Madison Zeyn. Coolidge drove in two runs while Harper Bourret and Zeyn drove in individual runs. Wellsboro took an early lead in the 1st but CV rallied with 7 runs.
Riley Lanphear started the game, give up 8 runs on 3 hits with 8 walks and two strikeouts. Rachel Weaver came on in the third, allowing 3 hits with 4 walks and 2 strikeouts.
Wellsboro's offense came alive in game two as they combined for 13 hits. Bourret led the way with a 3-for-4 performance at the plate with a pair of triples and 2 RBIs. Coolidge, Taeber Rodriguez and Weaver had two hits apiece, with Weaver also hitting a triple. Lanphear, Hailey Stevens, Tegan Wheeler and Kyerra Heck each added solo hits.
Rodriguez drove in three runs, Weaver drove in two runs and Coolidge, Stevens and Heck drove in one run each.
Coolidge pitched two innings, allowing 8 runs on 6 hits with 5 walks and a strikeout. Weaver and Lanphear each threw one inning. Weaver allowed 3 runs on 3 hits with 3 walks. Lanphear gave up one run on 4 hits.
Wellsboro (4-4) hosts Canton Friday afternoon.
