Hornet XC Teams Top CV, Mansfield; Fall To NEB

The Wellsboro Cross Country teams both scored wins over Cowanesque Valley and North Penn-Mansfield, while falling to Northeast Bradford, in their season-opening meet Tuesday afternoon.

In the girls race the Lady Hornets defeated CV 26-39, topped North Penn-Mansfield 22-33, then were topped by NEB, 23-32.

Senior Lauren Kosek picked up where she left off last season with her 16th consecutive regular season meet victory with a time of 23:21. Junior Molly Tice (28:33) was 9th, junior Luisa Crocco (30:54) crossed the finish line in 12th with freshman Brianna O'Shea Losinger (33:50) behind her in 13th, and junior Anja Przybycien (35:22) was 15th.

In the boys meet the Hornets edged rival North Penn-Mansfield 28-29 and defeated CV, 20-37. NEB defeated Wellsboro 15-47.

Sophomore Taitt Webster was the top finishing Hornet, crossing the line in 8th (22:02). Freshman William Rudy (22:41) was 10th, freshman Lucas Crowl (24:07) was 13th, junior Jack Hammerton (24:15) came home 15th, sophomore Jesse Spicer (25:26) was 19th, sophomore Jacob Patterson (26:02) and freshman Jeff Rawson (26:41) were 21st and 22nd, respectively, freshman Justin Dunlap (28:50) finished 26th, and freshman Aaron Salevsky (35:03) rounded out the field in 30th.

In the Junior High girls race the young Lady Hornets went 0-3, falling 20-35 to CV and 27-28 to both NEB and North Penn-Mansfield. Summer Boder (16:12) was 9th, Kendall DeShazo (16:20) was 10th, Amelia Pollaro (17:19) finished 13th, Serenity Harrison (19:25) was 14th, and Avral DeShazo (20:00) finished 15th.

In the boys race, the young Hornets picked up wins over CV (17-38) and North Penn-Mansfield (20-26), but fell to NEB (22-37). Declan Borzok (12:08) took 3rd overall, followed by Colton Coolidge (12:08) in 4th. Wiley Sargent (12:32) finished 7th, Emmett Tice (16:56) was 14th, and Devin Shaw (26:43) came home 22nd.

The Varsity teams are in action this Saturday at the Cliff Robbins Memorial Invite. All four teams are at Wyalusing for a tri-meet with the Rams and Towanda on September 8.
