Frantz Strikes Out 12 As Lady Hornets Score 13-6 Win At Sullivan County

Sophomore Adelyn Frantz threw a no-hitter and struck out 12 in 4 innings of work, while driving in 4 runs, to help the Wellsboro Varsity Softball team pick up their 2nd win of the season, 13-6, at Sullivan County.

The Lady Hornets started early as sophomore Rylee Coolidge scored to put Wellsboro up early, then continued that momentum with 4 runs in the 2nd inning. Highlighted by a double from sophomore Kaylee Frazier, sophomore Delaney Morral, junior Mazie Johnson and senior Harleigh Cleveland all crossed home plate, along with Frazier, to push the Lady Hornets' lead to 5-0.

Sullivan County got two runs back in the bottom half of the inning to cut down the lead to 5-2, however Wellsboro's offense kept the pressure on in the 3rd and 4th innings.

Morral scored for the second time as Johnson singled to right with two outs. Smith scored in the 4th after reaching on an error to lead off the inning, further increasing Wellsboro's lead to 7-2.

After a scoreless 5th, the Lady Hornets piled on the offense in the 6th with five runs. Frantz, freshman Gena Fleming, sophomore Teagan Novinger, Morral and Frazier crossed home plate to make the score 12-2. Sullivan County had their best inning in the bottom of the 6th as they scored 4 runs to cut the lead in half at 12-6, however Wellsboro added their final run in the 7th as Coolidge crossed home plate for the second time in the game.

Frantz and Frazier both went 3-for-5 at the plate. Frantz tripled and drove in 4 runs while Frazier scored twice drove in two and hit two doubles. Johnson went 2-for-2 with an RBI, freshman Emaleigh Hamblin was 2-for-2 with an RBI, freshman Paityn Biery was 2-for-2, Smith finished 2-for-4 with 2 RBIs, Fleming was 2-for-5 with a double and RBI, and Coolidge, Novinger, and Morral rounded out the rest of the Lady Hornets' 19 hits.

Frantz recorded the win on the mound, allowing just two walks to go along with her double-digit strikeouts and 0 hits. Smith threw 3 innings, allowing 4 runs on 2 hits with 5 strikeouts.

The win improves the Lady Hornets' to 2-3 (1-3 NTL Large School Division). The team is back in action against Troy on Wednesday.
