Sophomore Adelyn Frantz recorded 12 strikeouts to cross 200 for her career, all while having a monster day at the plate, to lead the Wellsboro Varsity Softball team to a 10-7 Saturday afternoon win over Cowanesque Valley.

The win is the Lady Hornets' 4th in a row and caps a perfect week to move them to 5-3 on the season.

An early run by the Lady Indians had the Lady Hornets in an early hole, however they dug themselves out and tied the game at 1-all as freshman Haylie Smith led off with a walk and scored on a passed ball. Wellsboro took the lead an inning later as sophomore Kaylee Frazier doubled and later crossed home plate.

CV knotted the game back up at 2-all in the 3rd, and retook the lead with a pair of runs in the top of the 4th, but Wellsboro broke the game open with a 6-run 4th of their own.

A solo home run from sophomore Teagan Novinger started the bottom of the 4th and Frantz capped the inning with a grand slam to put the Lady Hornets up 8-4.

Cowanesque chipped away and got the Lady Hornets' lead down to 8-7 with two runs in the 5th and one in the 6th, but Wellsboro added two more runs in the sixth to hold on for the win.

Smith drew a walk to lead off the inning, then scored on a Frantz triple. Frantz later scored for Wellsboro's 10th run.

Frantz was 3-for-3 at the plate, and was a double away from hitting for the cycle. Her 5 RBIs on the day also tied herself for 3rd all-time for RBIs in a single game. Smith finished 2-for-2 with 3 runs scored and sophomore Rylee Coolidge, Novinger, Frazier, and senior Harleigh Cleveland made up the remaining 9 hits for Wellsboro.

Frantz also earned the win from the mound in a complete game. She allowd 7 runs (2 earned) on 6 hits with 6 walks and 12 strikeouts. She now sits at 207 strikeouts for her career.

Wellsboro also won the following JV game 7-1. Freshmen Phoebe Bowen and Lakyn Close both finished 2-for-3 at the plate with Bowen hitting a double.

Wellsboro (5-3, 3-3 NTL Large School Division) hosts rival North Penn-Liberty on Thursday.
