The Lady Wildcats of Athens scored all three of their runs in the top of the 4th inning to break a scoreless tie and hand the Wellsboro Varsity Softball team their fourth consecutive loss Tuesday afternoon.
Sophomore Adelyn Frantz allowed just one hit, a double by Memphis Paul, up until the 4th when Madalyn Hiley broke the tie with a solo home run. Later in the inning, with two outs, Danica May reached on an error and Savannah Finan drew a walk. May and Hailey Smith, running for Finan, both crossed home plate to put Athens up 3-0.
Frantz threw a complete game, allowing just 3 hits with 3 walks and 15 strikeouts.
Wellsboro struggled at the plate, connecting on just two hits, a double from sophomore Kaylee Frazier in the 2nd and a single from senior Harleigh Cleveland in the 5th.
Gretchan Hiley struck out 16 for Athens and allowed just two walks.
The loss drops the Lady Hornets to 5-7 (3-6 NTL Large School Division). The team is back in action Thursday against Towanda for Senior Night.
