The Wellsboro Varsity Softball team jumped out an early 5-0 lead in the first inning against Coudersport, turning the lead into a 12-1 win in five innings Thursday afternoon.
After an early out Wellsboro's 2-6 hitters all drew walks and sophomore Mazie Johnson was hit by a pitch. As the inning came to a close freshman Rylee Coolidge, senior Paige Logsdon, and freshmen Delaney Morral, Hannah Taylor and sophomore Kaelyn Peterson all crossed home plate.
Wellsboro picked back up with two runs in the 2nd, with Coolidge scoring for the first time and freshman Teagan Novinger after belting a triple, increasing Wellsboro's lead to 7-0. Wellsboro added another run in the 3rd to make it an 8-0 lead after freshman Adelyn Frantz drew a walk then later scored.
Coudersport got a run back in the top of the 4th to cut it to an 8-1 lead, however the Lady Hornets put together a 4-run 5th inning to close the game out. Logsdon started the inning with a solo home run, then freshman Madalynn Flannery connected on a double, and junior Miya Kemp book-ended the inning with a triple down the right field line.
Logsdon led Wellsboro at the plate, going 2-for-3 with 2 RBIs. Flannery, Peterson, Kemp, and freshman Ariel Acevedo were all 1-for-1 and Morral and Novinger were 1-for-2.
