The Wellsboro Varsity Softball team suffered a 9-4 loss to Williamson on Monday, May 12.
After a scoreless two and a half innings the Lady Warriors took the lead in the bottom of the 3rd with 5 runs. Wellsboro answered back in the top of the 4th on a two-run home run by freshman Teagan Novinger that scored senior Paige Logsdon following her base hit.
Williamson added one more run in the 5th and three more in the 6th, increasing their lead to 9-2.
The Lady Hornets closed the gap with two runs in the bottom of the 6th as Novinger and freshman Hannah Taylor both crossed home plate, cutting the lead down to 9-4.
Freshman Adelyn Frantz went 3-for-4 with an RBI at the plate to lead Wellsboro while Novinger finished 2-for-4 with 2 RBIs. Logsdon and freshman Rylee Coolidge added the remaining hits and Coolidge also drove in a run.
Frantz pitched a full game, allowing 9 runs (4 earned) on 6 hits with 8 walks and 13 strikeouts.
Olivia Gee went the distance on the mound for Williamson, allowing 7 hits and striking out 7 while going 2-for-4 at the plate with and RBI. Kaegan Short was also 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI.
The loss drops the Lady Hornets to 5-11 (3-10 NTL Large School Division). The team plays their final division game this afternoon, on the road at Athens.
