Lady Hornets 10-Run Canton To Sweep Season Series

Wellsboro put together a 7-run 1st inning to carry them to a 14-4 win over Canton in six innings on Thursday.

The first six batters all scored for the Lady Hornets to kick off the game, highlighted by doubles from freshman Adelyn Frantz and senior Paige Logsdon. Frantz, Logsdon, freshmen Rylee Coolidge, Delaney Morral, Kaylee Frazier and Hannah Taylor, and sophomore Kaelyn Peterson all scored in the inning. Canton added one run in the bottom of the inning and two more in the second, after Peterson scored for the second time in the game in the top of the 2nd, to cut the lead down to 8-3.

Frantz scored again in the top of the third, then Logsdon, Morral and freshman Teagan Novinger scored in the 5th, to go on a 4-0 run to give Wellsboro a commanding 12-3 lead.

Canton scored their final run in the bottom of the 5th to cut the score to 12-4, but Wellsboro added their final two runs an inning later as senior Arianah Lawton and Logsdon both crossed home plate.

Frantz and Logsdon both went 4-for-5 at the plate, and scored two runs each, to lead the Lady Hornets on the day while Novinger finished 2-for-5 with a run scored. Coolidge, Morral, freshman Madalynn Flannery, sophomore Mazie Johnson, Peterson, junior LeAnna Fuentes, and Taylor made up the remaining 16 hits.

Logsdon earned the win on the mound, allowing 3 runs on 2 hits with 4 walks and 3 strikeouts in 1 & 1/3 innings of work. Frantz pitched the rest of the game, allowing the single run with 2 walks and 5 strikeouts.

The win improves the Lady Hornets to 5-9 (3-8 NTL Large School Division). The team is back in action Friday against Wyalusing.
