The Wellsboro Wrestling teams both suffered losses to Jersey Shore during Senior Night on Tuesday, February 4.

The Varsity boys lost 60-12 while the Varsity girls lost 30-30 on criteria of most forfeit victories.

In the girls match freshman Isla Twoey (100), junior Jordan Rumsey (112), and junior Kodi Passmore (118) got the Lady Hornets off to an 18-0 start. Twoey and Rumsey earned forfeits while Passmore pinned Gracie Hostrander. Following a loss at 124 lbs., senior Megan Robbins won by forfeit at 130 and freshman Katie Whitney scored a pin fall over Carsyn Sobiech at 136.

Jersey Shore took the next four matches via forfeit to secure the win. There were no matches at 190 lbs. or 235 lbs.

In the Varsity boys match the Hornets trailed 30-0 early on before junior Mason Nowak won by forfeit at 139 lbs. The Bulldogs then took the next four matches before senior Ryder Bowen scored a pin fall over Marshall Metzger at 189 lbs.

"I thought we battled against a growing Jersey Shore program," coach Bryce Bitner said. "It was a special evening to honor those seniors who have contributed to this program growing and coming back after not being here for almost a decade. Ryder, Evan, and Silas have meant so much to our program by working hard, setting an example, and being role models that this program can thrive in the future. Megan joined our program last season and has been a staple as well for our girls program just starting. She’s shown young ladies what hard work, toughness, and grit looks like. She’s been a great teammate and wrestler for us and we’ll miss all of our seniors and the memories they’ve given to our staff."

Jersey Shore also won the Junior High match, 65-12. Lance Starkweather (190) and Logan Stevens (250) were victorious for the Hornets, both winning by pin fall.

Both teams are back in action tomorrow night against Northeast Bradford.
