Hornet Track Teams Sweep Williamson

In their third meet of the season the Wellsboro Track teams pulled off the double sweep over Williamson on Tuesday, April 1.

The girls defeated Williamson 89-61 and the boys won 108-42.

"We continue to do well, despite the weather," said girls head coach Elizabeth Hoover. "We had some PRs tonight and because we already beat Williamson last week, some athletes chose to try different events."

"We also had a lot more district qualifiers," added boys head coach Brigette Largey.

Sophomore Piper Hoprich won both the 100m (12.49) and 200m (26.43) with freshman Luna Moyer (13.68) taking 3rd in the 100m and junior Sophia Yoder (28.88) finishing 3rd in the 200m. Wellsboro swept the 400m with Hoprich (1:04.58), freshman Isla Twoey (1:07.05) and sophomore Lauren Kosek (1:08.91) finishing 1st through 3rd. Kosek was 2nd in the 800m (2:38.98), freshman Molly Tice (7:14.37) was 2nd in the 1600m, and Kosek (12:12.98) won the 3200m with senior Karah Blackwell (16:08.16) in 3rd.

Freshman Jennifer Belz (18.23) and junior Taylor Main (18.99) were 2nd and 3rd in the 100m hurdles, Belz was 2nd in the 300m hurdles (57.18) and Wellsboro swept both the 4x100m relay with a time of 52.81 and the 4x800m in 13:29.67.

Senior Annie Gehman (4-ft, 10), junior Kristina Belz (4-ft, 6) and freshman Bella Hawn (4-ft, 4) swept the high jump, sophomore Ellie Largey (6-ft, 6), junior Megan Mosher (6-ft, 6) and junior Brooke Wheeler (6-ft) swept the pole vault, Gehman took 2nd in the long jump (14-ft, 11), and Gehman (32-ft, 4.25) and Twoey (29-ft, 5.25) took 1st and 2nd in the triple jump.

Freshman Aileen Bowers (25-ft, 10.5) was 3rd in the shot put, freshman Katie Whitney (66-ft, 3.5) was 4th in the discus, and Main (87-ft, 1) and junior Rowan Butters (79-ft, 9) were 2nd and 3rd in the javelin.

For the boys, senior Jack Bryant (11.61) and junior Jacoby Strang (11.78) were 1st and 2nd in the 100m, Bryant (23.96) won the 200m with Strang (25.01) taking 3rd, and junior Jonathan Carl (53.15) won the 400m with junior Aaron Kirk (58.06) taking 3rd.

Junior Jude Cuneo (2:10.57) won the 800m, juniors Max Macias (4:57.31) and Henry Whitney (5:03.87) went 1-2 in the 1600m along with the 3200m. Macias ran 10:58.59 to take the top spot with Whitney running 11:30.14 for 2nd.

Senior Micah Vickery (16.24), freshman Brayden Benjamin (20.41) and freshman Stephen Tokarz (22.23) swept the 110m hurdles and junior David Seeling (44.0), Vickery (44.96) and Benjamin (49.69) sweeping the 300m hurdles.

The Hornets swept the relay events, winning the 4x100m in 47.06, the 4x400m in 3:50.39, and the 4x800m in 9:51.05.

Seeling (6-ft, 2) and Vickery (5-ft, 8) took 1st and 2nd in the high jump, senior Gabe Carpenter (9-ft, 6) was 3rd in the pole vault, seniors Micaiah Fitch (18-ft, 5) and Emmanuel Posada (17-ft, 7) went 1-2 in the long jump, and Carl (39-ft, 8.25), Fitch (38-ft, 6.5) and Posada (36-ft, 3.5) swept the triple jump.

Freshman Ransom Schultz (33-ft, 2) was 2nd in the shot put, junior Jacob Thurstin (87-ft, 10.5) and senior Levi Stone (86-ft, 6) were 2nd and 3rd in the discus, and sophomore Jacob Smith (98-ft, 9) was 3rd in the javelin.

Both teams are back in action next Tuesday at Towanda.
