The Wellsboro Junior High Softball team closed out their season on a high note, winning a pair of games against Sayre on Thursday, May 23.
The young Lady Hornets shutout Sayre 21-0 in game one and won 15-7 in game two.
Adelyn Frantz threw a complete game, no-hitter, with one walk and 9 strikeouts.
Frantz also led Wellsboro at the plate, going 4-for-4 with 4 RBIs and two runs scored. Haylie Smith, Hannah Taylor, and Rylee Coolidge were also perfect at the plate, all hitting 3-for-3. Lacie Brutsman finished 2-for-2, Delaney Morral was 2-for-3, Genevieve Fleming and Teagan Novinger were both 2-for-4, and Kaylee Frazier was 1-for-3.
Smith scored 4 times on the evening while Taylor, Brutsman and Coolidge scored three times. Morral, Frantz and Fleming all scored twice and Novinger and Frazier scored once.
In game two Wellsboro found themselves leading 5-3 after the first inning. Both teams scored 4 times in the 2nd, but Wellsboro poured on 6 runs in the third to secure the win.
Paige Browning and Ariel Acevedo led Wellsboro at the plate with Browning finishing 2-for-2 and Acevedo hitting 2-for-3 with 4 RBIs. Madalynn Flannery and Zoey Roosa were 1-for-2, Isabella Dean was 1-for-3 and Paityn Biery, Smith, and Kaitlyn Owlett were all 1-for-1.
Emaleigh Hamblin (2), Ava Wood, Flannery, Dean (2), Roosa, Biery, Browning (2), Smith, Acevedo (2), Owlett, and Mariah Rodgers all scored runs.
Browning pitched two innings, allowing 7 runs (1 earned) on 3 hits with 5 walks and 5 strikeouts. Smith and Fleming also threw an inning each, combining for 1 hit and 4 strikeouts while allowing no runs.
Wellsboro finishes the season 8-11.
