A 5-run 1st inning led Wellsboro to an 11-1 win over Northeast Bradford on Thursday, April 25 to pull the young Lady Hornets within a game of .500.
Wellsboro scored 5 runs in the 1st, added 3 in the 3rd, 2 in the 4th, and capped the 5th with a single run. NEB scored their lone run of the game in the 2nd inning.
"The girls had a great night offensively," said head coach Darci Warriner. "Haylie and G did great on the mound, only allowing 3 hits. I am so proud of the team and their hard work this season."
Genevieve Fleming went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Wellsboro while Hannah Taylor, Adelyn Frantz, Delaney Morral, Teagan Novinger, Kaylee Frazier, and Luisa Crocco all collected hits. Fleming drove in a pair of runs and Morral, Crocco and Rylee Coolidge also had RBIs. Smith and Fleming combined for a 3-hit performance on the mound, with 5 total strikeouts. Smith struck out 4 in 2 & 2/3 innings while Fleming fanned one batter and walked one. She did not allow a hit in her two innings of work.
The win improves the team to 3-4. The team resumes play on Monday against Athens.
