Northeast Bradford edged Wellsboro 33-30 on the wrestling mat on Wednesday, January 24.
The Panthers started off the match with a four straight wins, including a three forfeits at 127, 133, and 145 lbs. It wasn't until the 152 lb. match that the Hornets got on a roll.
Juniors Silas Mickey (152), Ryder Bowen (172) and Evan Ingerick (189) won via forfeit while junior Jacob Dean scored a 4:34 pin over Nation Evans at 160 lbs. and sophomore Hayden Stevens recorded a pin fall over Connor Eastabrook in 3:22 at 215 lbs. Stevens' pin put the Hornets in front 30-21 with two matches remaining. NEB cut the lead down to 30-27 after Westen Perkins pinned sophomore Jacob Thurstin in 1:09, then claimed the victory as Mason Alexander won by forfeit at 107 lbs.
Wellsboro won the Junior High match 48-24. Mason Greene, Taitt Webster, Hunter Carson, Vincent Arena, Gavin Carson, Lance Starkweather, Logan Stevens, and Dennis McIntyre all won for Wellsboro.
In the Varsity Girls match up, NEB won 18-0 after winning two of three matches by forfeit. In the only contested bout of the match, Anaiah Kolesar pinned junior Megan Robbins in 2:30.
The loss drops the Hornets to 4-14 (0-8 NTL). The team is back in action later this evening against Addison.
