Senior Noah Morey earned a trip to next week's PIAA Championships in Shippensburg by placing 2nd in the discus at the District IV Track & Field Championships on Saturday, May 18.

"Noah has worked hard focusing on discus for the last few weeks and it showed today," first year head coach Brigette Largey said. "He was seeded 6th, but utilized his hard work and persevered through rainy weather to place 2nd."

Morey landed a 117-ft, 8-in throw on his 2nd attempt to make the finals during a rainy day in Williamsport. On his first throw of the finals he landed a 136-ft, 8-in throw. His 2nd throw, a 138-ft, 8-in toss, would be his best on the day, and land him a silver medal.

"The weather was something I was fearful of going into districts but it ended up not affecting me much because I made sure to practice a bit while it was wet. I'd say it affected the other competitors more than me as I was not expected to finish as high as 2nd place."

Now Morey will make his first trip to Shippensburg University next weekend, after setting that as his goal before the season started.

"Getting to states as a senior is a major relief and it has been a long road traveled," he said. "Having just started throwing as a freshman I had a major disadvantage to other competitors who started before me. I set a goal before the season started to make it to states so I really am glad it all worked out. I'm excited for the experience and the competition next week."

Morey was not the only Hornet who brought home hardware Saturday. Sophomore Jonathan Carl ran 51.51 to finish 5th in the 400m and finished 8th in the triple jump (40-ft, 10).

Sophomores Max Macias (4:50.74) and Jude Cuneo (4:53.74) were 16th and 17th in the 1600m, Macias (10:09.00) finished 10th in the 3200m, senior Watson Feil (106-ft, 8) finished 14th in the discus, sophomore David Seeling (5-ft, 7) with 16th in the high jump with teammate Micah Vickery (5-ft, 5) in 21st, and junior Gabe Carpenter (10-ft, 6) placed 14th in the pole vault.

The boys 4x100m relay team of Carl, juniors Jack Bryant and Micaiah Fitch and sophomore Jacoby Strang finished 9th (45.24) and the 4x400m team of Bryant, Fitch, Cuneo and freshman Dylan Tomlinson were 12th (3:52.12).
