The Wellsboro Varsity Softball team evened up their season record after a 30-9 win over Coudersport in 4 innings on Monday, April 15.
The Lady Hornets batted through their entire lineup in the first inning, scoring 3 runs by sophomore LeAnna Fuentes, senior Abby Owlett and junior Paige Logsdon. Coudersport would cut the lead to 3-2 in the bottom half of the inning, however Wellsboro added 4 more runs in the 2nd to put some breathing room between themselves and the Lady Falcons. Fuentes, Owlett, Logsdon, and freshman Bailee Confer all crossed home plate.
Coudersport rallied with 5 runs in the bottom half of the inning to tie the game at 7-all, but would be held to just 2 more runs as Wellsboro's offense continued to fire on all cylinders.
Wellsboro broke the tie in the top of the 3rd, scoring 9 runs then added 14 more in the 4th to finish the game early.
Logsdon and junior Arianah Lawton were both 2-for-2 at the plate. Logsdon hit a double and drove in 5 runs while Lawton walked twice and drove in 4 runs. Sophomore Tegan Del Rio finished 2-for-4 with an RBI while Owlett, Confer, and senior Caralyn Warner added solo hits. Both Owlett and Warner drove in a pair of runs.
Freshman Mazie Johnson pitched a complete game, allowing 9 runs on 6 hits with 3 walks and 5 strikeouts.
Wellsboro (2-2, 1-2 NTL Large School Division) returns to league play this afternoon as they host Cowanesque Valley.
