Sophomore Lauren Kosek and junior Max Macias both earned trips to next weekend's PIAA Cross Country Championships after their performances at the District IV Cross Country Championships at Bloomsburg University on Thursday, October 24.
Kosek finished 2nd overall in the Class 2A girls race, just 4 seconds behind Lewisburg's Baylee Espinosa, who happens to be the defending state champion. Kosek ran a time of 18:21. Both her and Espinosa were the only finishers to post sub-18 minute times.
In the Class 2A boys race Macias finished 12th overall in 16:48 to qualify.
Both runners also qualified last year.
In the girls race the Lady Hornets finished 10th overall as a team, recording 232 places. Junior Sophia Yoder (24:09) was 54th, freshman Molly Tice (24:28) was 58th, freshman Anja Przybycien (25:30) was 71st, senior Karah Blackwell (26:22) finished 75th, and freshman Luisa Crocco (28:33) came home in 92nd.
In the boys race, Wellsboro finished 11th overall with 285 places. Junior Henry Whitney (17:52) came home in 30th, junior Ethan Geneski (20:15) finished 83rd, freshman Lane Cozby (21:01) was 94th, freshman Jack Hammerton (22:31) was 112th, and junior Henry Nowak (23:19) was 115th.
