Hornets Take 2nd At NTL Track & Field Championships

Wellsboro's Boys Track & Field team finished 2nd behind Troy at the NTL Championships in Athens on Friday, May 10.

The Hornets scored 113 points and were edged out by the Trojans (130 points). Athens (102) finished 3rd, North Penn-Mansfield (70) was 4th, Wyalusing (65) came home in 5th, Northeast Bradford (55) was 6th, Towanda (53) placed 7th, Williamson (49) was 8th, Sayre (40) finished in 9th, and Canton (24) rounded out the field.

"Our teams had an incredible showing, not just in successes on the track and in the field, but through their camaraderie towards teammates and competitors," first year head coach Brigette Largey said. "Our boys team had small numbers this year but our athletes stepped up and made up for our numbers with both their heart and hard work. We have some strong seniors and teammates going to districts and a promising, competitive class coming back next year."

Junior Micah Vickery (16.23) and sophomore David Seeling (17.68) were 1st and 3rd in the 110m hurdles, junior Jack Bryant (11.67) took 5th in the 100m with sophomore Jonathan Carl (11.73) finishing in 7th, Bryant (24.43) finished 5th in the 200m, Carl (52.05) was 2nd in the 400m, sophomore Jude Cuneo (2:13.82) took 9th in the 800m, Vickery (43.80) and Seeling (44.55) took 2nd and 3rd in the 300m hurdles, sophomore Max Macias (4:42.35) was 4th in the 1600m with Cuneo (4:51.23) coming home in 8th, and Macias (10:17.55) finished 5th in the 3200m.

Wellsboro took 3rd in the 4x100m (45.68) and 6th in the 4x400m relay (4:00.74).

Seniors Watson Feil (150-ft, 4) and Noah Morey (149-ft, 8) claimed the top two spots in the javelin, Morey (127-ft, 11) finished 3rd in the discus with Feil (113-ft, 3) taking 6th, and Morey (39-ft, 4) came home 5th in the shot put.

Junior Gabe Carpenter (10-ft, 6) brought home a 4th place finish in the pole vault, junior Micaiah Fitch (19-ft, 5.5) finished 6th in the long jump, Carl (38-ft, 10.25) was 6th in the triple jump, and Seeling and Vickery tied for 6th in the high jump (5-ft, 6).

The Lady Hornets will be back in action next week at the District IV Track & Field Championships at Williamsport.
