Hornet Track Teams Split With Athens, Beat Canton

The Wellsboro Track teams split with Athens and defeated Canton in an NTL tri-meet at Athens on Tuesday, April 23.

The boys team came home with two wins, putting up 92.5 points to beat Athens (68.5) and Canton (27). The girls team suffered their first regular season loss as the Lady Wildcats won with 86 points. Wellsboro finished 2nd with 55 points and Canton was 3rd with 48.

"The boys worked hard despite some sickness and injuries," head coach Brigette Largey said. "We had Watson Feil (1st in javelin), Gabe Carpenter (1st in pole vault), Micah Vickery (1st in 110 & 300 hurdles), David Seeling (1st in high jump), Jonathan Carl (1st in 100, 400, & triple jump), Noah Morey (1st in long jump), 4x1 (1st – Jack Bryant, Micaiah Fitch, Jacoby Strang, & Jonathan Carl), and our 4x8 (1st-Jude Cuneo, Henry Whitney, Ethan Geneski, Max Macias).  We continue to have a lot of athletes trying new things and earning PRs in their events.  We are very proud of all of their hard work."

Junior Micah Vickery (16.60) and sophomore David Seeling (18.60) swept the 110m hurdles, sophomore Jonathan Carl (11.90) won the 100m with sophomore Jacoby Strang (12.00) tying for 2nd and junior Micaiah Fitch tying for 4th (12.30). Sophomores Max Macias (4:50.60) and Jude Cuneo (4:56.30) were 3rd and 4th in the 1600m, freshman Dylan Tomlinson (1:02.90) was 7th in the 400m with sophomore Ethan Geneski (1:03.10) in 8th, Vickery (44.70) and Seeling (45.20) finished 1-2 in the 300m hurdles, Cuneo (2:16.50) was 2nd in the 800m, Strang (25.8) took 3rd in the 200m, and Macias (10:42.90) was 2nd in the 3200m.

Wellsboro won the 4x800m (9:36.30), took 1st in the 4x100m (45.90), and finished 2nd in the 4x400m (4:02.60).

Seniors Noah Morey (110-ft, 2) and Watson Feil (108-ft, 4) were 2nd and 3rd in the discus, and the duo also finished 2-3 in the shot put with Morey (39-ft, 8) taking 2nd and Feil (36-ft, 10) taking 3rd. Feil won the javelin (154-ft, 2) with Morey (148-ft, 2) coming home in 2nd.

Junior Gabe Carpenter cleared 10-ft, 6 to win the pole vault, Seeling (5-ft, 10) won the high jump with Vickery (5-ft 8) in 2nd, Morey (17-ft, 10.25) won the long jump with Fitch (16-ft, 7.75) taking 3rd, and Carl (39-ft, 7.75) won the triple jump.

For the girls, senior Sara Seeling (18.00) was 2nd in the 100m hurdles, freshman Piper Hoprich (12.70) took 2nd in the 100m, senior Madison Robbins (7:53.80) was 6th in the 1600m, senior Maddy Mascho (1:14.80) was 5th in the 400m, Seeling (53.70) took 2nd in the 300m hurdles, sophomore Makenna Robbins (3:02.60) was 5th in the 800m, and Hoprich (26.70) was 2nd in the 200m.

The Lady Hornets were 2nd in the 4x800m relay (13:15.50), they won the 4x100m (52.70) and were 2nd in the 4x400m (4:41.80).

Senior Hannah Gilmour (84-ft) was 3rd in the discus, senior Grace Harlan (30-ft) and Gilmour (26-ft, 10.75) were 2nd and 3rd in the shot put, and Seeling (70-ft, 3) took 3rd in the javelin.

Junior Annie Gehman won all three jumping events, hitting 15-ft in the long jump, 33-ft, 4.75 in the triple jump, and cleared 5-ft in the high jump. Senior Emily Richardson (13-ft, 7) added a 3rd place finish in the long jump, freshman Jadyn Dunlap (28-ft, 9.25) came home 3rd in the triple jump, sophomore Kristina Belz (4-ft 8) and freshman Ella Boyce (4-ft, 8) were 3rd and 4th in the high jump, and sophomore Megan Mosher (6-ft, 6) was 5th in the pole vault.

Both teams are at Wyalusing next week for their final regular season meet.
