Former Lady Hornet, and John Antoine Prevost Female Award winner, Cathryn Brought was awarded Lycoming College's Outstanding Female Athlete of the Year at their end-of-season banquet last Wednesday, May 8.

Lycoming's Outstanding Female Athlete of the Year Award recipient is "a student who has performed credibly in both the athletic and academic arenas and has contributed themselves to the college, having been determined as the most outstanding in athletic accomplishments."

"I was very surprised. At first it took a second for it to register that they just called my name, but then my teammates sitting with me starting nudging me to stand up and it hit me."

Brought, a three-sport athlete at Lycoming, initially signed with the Lady Warriors' basketball team coming out of high school, but matriculated to the swim and softball team for her final two years of eligibility after spending her first two years with the basketball team.

"Coming back to two sports I hadn't played in four or more years wasn't easy, but very well worth it, and I have my teammates and fellow student athletes to thank for that," Brought said. "I've been very fortunate to be surrounded by amazing teammates and coaches all four years, in all three sports I've participated in."

As a member of the basketball team Brought played in 25 games, starting 8, seeing 356 minutes of play while scoring 102 points and grabbing 49 rebounds and making 11 assists. This spring as a member of the softball team she appeared in 7 games, pitching 17 & 2/3 innings with a 5.55 ERA, 23 hits, 15 runs, and 9 strikeouts against 92 batters.

Brought also made "splashes" in the pool, setting the school's 100 IM record (1:02.68) in February 2023 at the MAC Championships and breaking the school record in the 100 Free (53.58) at this year's Landmark Conference Championships. She also posted team-leading times in the 50 Free (24.87), 100 Free (53.58), and 200 Free (1:59.35) this past season.

"I'm extremely grateful and honored to receive this award. We had a lot of very talented athletes in our class, and many others who achieved goals and milestones this year, so I wasn't expecting to hear my name read."
