Three late runs by Northeast Bradford in the bottom of the 7th propelled them to a 3-2 win over Wellsboro on Thursday, April 13.
The Lady Hornets were holding a 2-0 lead heading into the final half inning.
Wellsboro took an early lead in the 1st as sophomore Lexi Urena drew a walk with two outs, advanced to 2nd on a passed ball, took third on a wild pitch, and scored on a wild pitch. Wellsboro held on to their one-run lead as senior Rylie Boyce pitched a great game through 5 innings, allowing just 3 hits while walking 6 and striking out 7.
Wellsboro increased their lead in the top of the 5th. With one out senior Maddi Bordas ripped a triple to left field then later scored as Urena hit her own triple, putting Wellsboro up 2-0.
The score remained 2-0 in favor of the Lady Hornets heading into the bottom of the 7th when the Lady Panthers scored three straight runs to pull off the rally, and end Wellsboro's opportunity for their 2nd consecutive win.
Wellsboro had 5 hits on the afternoon, led by Urena's 2-for-3 performance and Bordas' 2-for-4 outing at the plate. Senior Molly Ingerick added the other hit.
Urena came on in relief for and inning and a third as was credited with the loss, allowing 3 runs (0 earned) on one hit with 3 walks and 2 strikeouts.
The loss drops the Lady Hornets to 1-6 (1-5 NTL Large School Division). The team is back on the field later this afternoon at home with Towanda.
