Troy scored 12 unanswered runs en route to a 17-1 lopsided victory over Wellsboro on Monday, April 3.
Both teams were scoreless in the first inning, but an 8-run 2nd inning by Troy blew the game open and handed the Lady Hornets their 4th consecutive loss to start the season. Troy added 4 more runs in the bottom of the 3rd to lead 12-0 before Wellsboro broke the shutout in the top of the 4th.
Senior Rylie Boyce led off the 4th with a double then scored one at bat later as senior Molly Ingerick hit a grounder to short stop. Boyce scored, and Ingerick reached base, on a throwing error.
Troy, however, would add 5 more runs in the bottom half of the inning, cutting the game short in just four innings.
Wellsboro had just three hits on the afternoon, one each by Boyce, senior Maddi Bordas, and sophomore Lexi Urena. Urena started on the mound, going two and a third innings, and allowed 12 runs on 7 hits with 4 walks and 6 strikeouts. Boyce came on in relief, allowing 5 runs (2 earned) on 2 hits with 6 walks and a strikeout.
The loss drops the Lady Hornets to 0-4 (0-3 NTL Large School Division). The team is back in action at rival North Penn-Liberty on Thursday, April 6.
