The Wellsboro Varsity Softball team picked up their 2nd win of the season following a 10-0 shut out over Sayre in 5 innings on Tuesday, April 25.
After a scoreless 1st inning the Lady Hornets' offense came alive with a 9-run 2nd. Junior Abby Owlett led off the inning by reaching on an error followed by junior Caralyn Warner also reaching base on an error. Seniors Molly Ingerick and Mariah Borden, along with freshman Tegan Del Rio all drew walks, senior Maddi Bordas hit into a fielders' choice, and senior Jordyn Abernathy and sophomore Lexi Urena hit back-to-back triples. All of them would score in the inning, putting Wellsboro firmly in control.
Bordas scored Wellsboro's final run in the 3rd after drawing a walk to put the Lady Hornets up 10-0, which they would hold on for the next two innings to claim the win.
Owlett led Wellsboro at the plate, going 2-for-3. Bordas and Borden were both 1-for-2, and Abernathy, Urena, and senior Rylie Boyce were all 1-for-3. Abernathy drove in 3 runs, Boyce drove in two, and Bordas, Urena, and Del Rio drove in one each.
Urena pitched a complete game, allowing just 1 hit with 3 walks and 6 strikeouts.
Wellsboro improves to 2-8 (2-7 NTL Large School Division). The team is back in action on Friday at Cowanesque Valley.
