The Wellsboro Varsity Softball team had an early lead slip away resulting in a 15-4 loss to Towanda on Friday, April 14.
Wellsboro struck first in the bottom of the 1st with a lead off single by senior Maddi Bordas and an RBI double by senior Jordyn Abernathy, putting the Lady Hornets up 1-0. The Lady Knights took the lead with 4 runs in the top of the 3rd, however Wellsboro tied the game in the bottom half of the inning.
With one out Bordas and Abernathy both reached base, putting two runners aboard for sophomore Lexi Urena. Urena hit a 3-run blast, her 3rd of the season, to tie the game up at 4-all. Towanda broke the tie in the top of the next inning with two runs, then added a run in the 5th to push the lead to 7-4. Towanda added 8 runs in the top of the 7th, sparked by a solo home run by Brynn Woodruff.
Wellsboro had four hits in the game, one each from Bordas, Abernathy, Urena, and senior Rylie Boyce. Urena was credited with the loss.
The Lady Hornets fall to 1-7 (1-6 NTL Large School Division). The team is back in action on Wednesday, April 19 at Wyalusing.
