The Wellsboro Wrestling teams took part in a tri-match with Port Allegany and Oswayo Valley on Friday, February 3, splitting wins.
The Hornets defeated Oswayo Valley 60-6 and fell to Port Allegany, 60-12.
Against the Green Wave the Hornets trailed after the match at 114 lbs. and a double forfeit at 107 lbs., but quick took a 12-6 lead as freshmen Alyssa Chilson and Mason Nowak earned forfeits at 121 lbs. and 127 lbs., respectively. After a double forfeit at 133 lbs. the Hornets took the next 8 matches to close things out.
Sophomore Will Gastrock started the run with a pin over Riley May in 2:42 at 139 lbs., sophomores Silas Mickey (145 lbs.) and Jacob Dean (152 lbs.) secured back-to-back forfeits, sophomore Evan Ingerick pinned Jacob Alrich in 3:08 at 160 lbs., and senior Wyatt Gastrock pinned Abram Austin in 2:48 at 189 lbs.
Sophomore Ryder Bowen (172 lbs.) and freshmen Hayden Stevens (215 lbs.) and Dominick Starkweather (285 lbs.) all won via forfeit.
Against the Gators the Hornets' two wins came at 138 lbs. as Will Gastrock pinned James Nichols in 5:27 and by Ingerick pinning Jacob Renner in 3:43 at 160 lbs.
Port Allegany won 8 matches by pin fall and the other two by forfeit. There was no match at 106 lbs.
The Hornets are now 5-11 on the year, and return to action for the final time this season at Athens on Tuesday.
