Wellsboro went 2-4 on the day at the Spartan Duals in Hughesville on Saturday, December 16.
The Hornets beat Northeast Bradford (36-24) and Loyalsock (30-24) while falling to Danville (42-24), Sullivan County (42-36), Sugar Valley Rural Charter (36-18), and Hughesville (69-0).
Against NEB sophomore Gavyn Jelliff won by forfeit at 121 lbs., sophomore Cole Knapp scored a pin over Alex Gomez in 1:25 at 145 lbs., and juniors Silas Mickey, Jacob Dean, and Ryder Bowen won three straight matches via pin fall, breaking an 18-all tie and putting the Hornets in front, 30-18. Sophomore Hayden Stevens won one out of two remaining matches for the Hornets.
Against Loyalsock the Hornets started out trailing 6-0 but won the next three straight matches, and five of the eight matches to score the win. Sophmore Mason Nowak won a forfeit at 133 lbs., freshman Wyatt Kilburn won by forfeit at 145 lbs., and Mickey scored a pin fall over Trey Borgess in 1:10 at 152 lbs. Wellsboro's two final wins of the match were a forfeit by Bowen at 172 lbs. and a forfeit for Stevens at 285 lbs.
Jelliff, Nowak, Bowen and junior Evan Ingerick scored victories against Danville with Jelliff and Nowak earning forfeits while Bowen and Ingerick both won via pin fall.
Jelliff scored a 3:10 fall over Sullivan County's Dylan Gilbert for one of six Hornet pins in the match. Mickey, Dean, Bowen, Ingerick, and Stevens all won via pin fall.
Against Sugar Valley Dean won a 10-4 decision against Ethan Bartenope at 160 lbs. Bowen also won via forfeit and sophomore Jayden Dumm earned a 4-3 decision over Brandon Galentine at 215 lbs.
Wellsboro (2-6, 0-2 NTL) hosts Canton on Wednesday.
