The Wellsboro Varsity Wrestling team suffered a 57-9 loss at the hands of Troy at home on Thursday, December 14.
The Trojans started off winning the first two bouts at at 152 lbs. and 160 lbs., a pin fall by Kenyon Slater over junior Silas Mickey and a 10-3 decision by William Steele over junior Jacob Dean. Junior Ryder Bowen ended the skid as he edged out an 8-6 decision over Jacob Hinman at 172 lbs. Troy then took the next two matches, both pin falls at 189 lbs. and 215 lbs. At 189, Rylan Breidt pinned junior Evan Ingerick and Reed Palmer pinned sophomore Hayden Stevens at 215.
Sophomore Jacob Thurstin won via forfeit at 285 lbs. for the Hornets second win of the evening.
Troy then went on a six match streak to close out the match, winning three matches by forfeit (107 lbs., 127 lbs., and 139 lbs.) and the other three by pin fall. Konnor Kerr pinned sophomore Gavyn Jelliff at 121 lbs., sophomore Mason Nowak fell to Wilder Koch at 133 lbs., and Carter Austin claimed the final victory at 145 lbs. over freshman Wyatt Kilburn.
There was a double forfeit at 114 lbs.
The loss drops the Hornets to 0-2 (0-2 NTL) to start the season. The team returns to the mat Saturday in the Spartan Duals at Hughesville.
