The Athens Lady Wildcats enacted the 10-run rule on the Wellsboro Varsity Softball team in a 13-3 loss on Thursday, May 6.

The Lady Hornets struggled offensively only producing 5 hits. Despite that, they did hold an early 2-0 lead on the host Wildcats in the 2nd inning. Sophomore Madaline Bordas led off the inning with a walk then later scored on a double by sophomore Rylie Boyce. Boyce then scored on a single by sophomore Jordyn Abernathy.

Wellsboro's lead didn't last long as the Lady Wildcats scored 4 in the bottom of the 3rd, then added 5 in the 4th, and capped it off with 4 more runs in the bottom of the 5th to reach the 10-run differential.

The Lady Hornets' other run came in the top of the 5th on an RBI-single by junior Emma Coolidge that scored Abernathy.

Seniors Kerrah Clymer and Jena Boyce, Rylie Boyce, Coolidge, and Abernathy accumulated all of the Wellsboro's hits on the afternoon. Clymer and Rylie Boyce split time on the mound. Clymer started and went 4 innings, allowing 9 runs on 7 hits with 3 strikeouts. Boyce allowed 4 runs (2 earned) on 2 hits in one inning of work.

The loss drops the Lady Hornets to 9-4 (6-4 NTL Large School Division). The team is back in action later this afternoon at Towanda.
