Seniors Jena Boyce and Chelsie English both hit home runs as the Wellsboro Varsity Softball team cruised past Sayre 16-1 in 3 innings on Monday, April 26.
The Lady Hornets scored 5 runs in the 1st inning, highlighted by Boyce's 2-run inside the park home run after senior Kerrah Clymer led off with a double. The remaining 3 runs came by sophomore Jordyn Abernathy, sophomore Madaline Bordas (double), and junior Emma Coolidge.
After a run by the Lady Redskins in the top of the 2nd, Wellsboro's offense exploded for 11 runs to end the game early. Abernathy, Bordas (double), Coolidge, senior Jessa Lohr, sophomore Rylie Boyce, senior Olivia Crocco, Clymer, Jena Boyce (double), and English (home run) all scored in the inning.
Wellsboro had 15 hits on the afternoon, led by Bordas, Coolidge, and Abernathy all going 2-for-2. Clymer, Jena Boyce, and Crocco were 2-for-3, and English, junior Olivia Servatius, and Rylie Boyce all had a hit. Jena Boyce drove in 3 runs and Bordas, English, and Coolidge drove in 2 runs each.
Rylie Boyce pitched a complete game to earn the win, allowing just the one run on 4 hits with 2 walks and 4 strikeouts.
The win improves the Lady Hornets' record to 8-3 (5-3 NTL Large School Division). The team is back in action on Wednesday, April 28 at Cowanesque Valley.
