On Monday, May 14 the Wellsboro Lady Hornets Softball team along with the Loyalsock Lady Lancers combined to play for pediatric cancer.
The twp hometown teams of Callie Cavanaugh wore black and gold game socks in recognition of pediatric cancer along with their "Callie Cares" t-shirts for the pregame warm ups. The teams stood along the baselines for the start of the game in respect to childhood cancer, as a donation was made from each team to the Cavanaugh family, for the Callie Cares Fund.
Callie Cares is a nonprofit organization established by 9 year old Callie Cavanaugh and her family before she lost her battle with childhood cancer this past April. Family and friends of Callie Cares have already raised tens of thousands of dollars to help families with a child with cancer by providing gift cards for food and gas, funding expansion efforts at the Philadelphia Ronald McDonald House, supporting a Make a Wish to a local child and giving toys to patients at The Janet Weis Children's Hospital Oncology floor.
It is the family's vision to continue to raise money for years to come in Callie's honor and to keep her spirit of giving and kindness alive. Both teams plan to make this an annual event.
