The Wellsboro Varsity Girls XC team edged Northeast Bradford on Tuesday, September 25 to score their second win of the season.
The Lady Hornets tied NEB 29-29 but won on the sixth-runner tiebreaker. Canton scored two wins on the afternoon, beating Wellsboro 19-36 and NEB 27-30.
Junior Kylie Butler was the highest finishing Lady Hornet in 4th with a time of 23:21. A swarm of Hornets finished 10-13 led by sophomore Aislinn Hoose (25:22) and followed by freshman Madeline Bryant (25:23), senior Kara Doane (25:48), and junior Alex Chilson (25:51). Sophomore Alexis Banik (27:40) was 15th and freshman Regan Regina (28:11) was 17th.
In the boys race Wellsboro fell to both Canton (29-38) and NEB (20-43). Seniors Bergen Weiner (18:52) and Zack Busch (19:18) were 3rd and 5th overall to lead the Hornets while senior Aidan Perry finished in the top 10 (9th overall) in 19:34. Rounding out the rest of the Hornet runners were junior Brennan Warner (21:38) in 21st, sophomore Aidan Fletcher (21:55) in 22nd, and freshman Gabe Guignard (22:59) in 27th.
In the Middle School races, the young Lady Hornets scored two wins beating Canton 15-50 and NEB 25-30. Madeline Gage won the race in 9:57 and Julia DeCamp was in 4th at 10:56. In the boys race Ezra Lawton finished 6th overall in 12:23.
The Hornets will be back in action this weekend at the NEPA Invite at Bloomsburg University.
