The Wellsboro Varsity Softball team closed out the 2016 regular season with a 2-0 win over Coudersport on Friday, May 20.
The Lady Hornets resumed Friday's game with a 1-0 lead and scored their second run in the fifth inning to hold on for their sixth straight win and fourth of the week.
Seniors Jenny Young and Sarah Ingerick both had 2 hits on the night. Senior Darci Warriner and sophomore Sydney Tremper collected the other hits on the night. Warriner and Ingerick each had RBI's and Tremper and sophomore Kailee Clymer scored Wellsboro's runs.
Senior Alexa Singer picked up the win, her eighth of the year, as she gave up a hit and struck out 3 in 2 innings of work. Sophomore Alyssa Yungwirth collected the save in 5 innings on the mound. Yungwirth allowed 1 hit and struck out 9 of the 17 batters she faced.
The win improves the Lady Hornets' record to 17-3. The team will be back in action next week in District IV playoffs.
