Senior Sarah Ingerick etched her name in the record books again to become the Wellsboro Varsity Softball team's all-time hits leader on Monday, May 9.

The Lady Hornets beat Canton 10-0 in 5 innings for their 12th win of the year.

Ingerick came into the game one hit behind former record holder Kate Reese, but went 3-for-3 at the plate to set the new record at 106 career hits on a 3-RBI double. Ingerick finished the game with 4 RBI's on the night to bring her to 23 on the season.

"I'm really honored to go into Wellsboro's history books once let alone twice in one sport, at least for the time being," Ingerick said. "But I couldn't have done it without my coaches and Kate herself. They have all pushed me and helped me get where I am today and I couldn't be more thankful."

Ingerick joined Reese (104), her former coach on the Punishers' travel team, and Hilarie Powers (101) last week against Athens before having a perfect night at the plate against Canton.

Reese was on hand to witness her friend break her record on Monday.

"I'm so glad that I was able to be there to witness the record breaking hit," Reese said. "I can't think of a more dedicated, hard-working, and deserving athlete to have broken my record. I'm glad to have been a small part of Sarah's softball journey thus far and I'm looking forward to watching her continue to thrive as she moves on to the next level!"

The Lady Hornets controlled Monday's game the entire way as they scored 3 runs in both the first and second innings, 1 in the third, and then 3 more in the fourth for the shutout. Senior Jenny Young was 2-for-3 with 3 runs scored, senior Alexa Singer was 1-for-2 with 2 RBI's, freshman Tiana Lecker was 1-for-1, sophomore Brianne Keane was 1-for-2 with 3 RBI's, sophomore Sydney Tremper went 1-for-3 with a run scored, senior Darci Warriner was 1-for-2 with 2 runs scored, and sophomore Alyssa Yungwirth was 1-for-2 with an RBI and run scored.

Singer pitched a complete game and gave up only 4 hits and a walk with 6 strikeouts on 79 pitches to improve to 7-0 in 8 starts on the year. Singer has now struck out 37 batters this year and 200 for her career.

The win improves the Lady Hornets' record to 12-3 (11-2 NTL) on the year. The team will be back in action on Wednesday, May 11 on the road in Williamson.
