A walk-off hit by sophomore Kailee Clymer in the bottom of the 7th gave the Wellsboro Varsity Softball team a 1-0 win over Wyalusing on Wednesday, April 6.
Offense was at a minimum as the game was a pitchers duel and conditions were poor. Both teams only combined for 7 hits in the game.
Wyalusing got some offense going in the 7th inning as Sarah Kneller singled, then Kylie Ward sent a shot to center to move the runner over, but the Lady Hornets' defense got out of the inning as sophomore Alyssa Yungwirth scooped up a grounder to send the game to the bottom of the 7th tied at 0-0.
Sophomore Brianne Keane hit a shot that went under the second baseman's glove to lead off the 7th, then Clymer sent a shot to center that went over the defense to score Keane and end the game with a 1-0 win for the Lady Hornets.
Yungwirth was flawless on the mound as she pitched a complete game, giving up only 3 hits while striking out 7 batters and walking one. Clymer led the Lady Hornets at the plate going 2-for-3 with a triple and RBI. Senior Sarah Ingerick and sophomore Sydney Tremper had the only other hits for Wellsboro on the night.
The win improves the Lady Hornets to 2-0. The team will be back in action on Friday, April 8 as they host Towanda.
