The Wellsboro Varsity Softball team moved into first place in NTL Division 1 with a 1-0 win over Troy on Wednesday, April 29.
Troy beat Wellsboro 4-2 in the second game of the 2015 season, but the Lady Hornets turned the tied and redeemed their only loss of the year. Wellsboro struggled at the plate and were only able to pound out six hits on the night, but made them count.
Junior Jenny Young singled to reach base in the third inning and would score the game's only run when Junior Sarah Ingerick doubled to bring her home.
In addition to Young and Ingerick's hits, Juniors Alexa Singer and Darci Warriner and Freshman Alyssa Yungwirth added the rest with Yungwirth going 2-for-3.
Yungwirth started on the mound and pitched a complete game, allowing only four hits with three walks and four strikeouts.
With the win, the Lady Hornets improve to 11-1 (5-1 NTL Division 1). The team will be back in action this afternoon as they travel to Northeast Bradford.
