The Wellsboro Varsity Softball team earned their second straight shut out and sixth of the season with a 6-0 win over Towanda on Monday, May 4.
The Lady Hornets scored two runs in the third inning, three in the fifth, and one in the seventh on the afternoon. Juniors Jenny Young and Sarah Ingerick each had two hits to lead Wellsboro at the plate. Juniors Alexa Singer and Darci Warriner and Seniors Peyton Wilson, Jordan Butters, Kaitlyn Sawyer, and Paige Carr also had hits.
Freshman Sydney Tremper scored three runs with Singer, Ingerick, and Wilson each scoring once.
Singer started the game and earned the win as she pitched five scoreless innings giving up two hits and striking out eight. Freshman Alyssa Yungwirth pitched the final two innings, allowing one hit and striking out three.
In the JV game, Wellsboro lost 4-1.
With the win, the Lady Hornets improve to 14-1 (7-1 NTL Division 1) and extend their win streak to 13 games. The team will be back in action on Wednesday, May 6 as they travel to Athens.
