The Wellsboro Wrestling team came home in 8th place with 39 points at the Selinsgrove Holiday Tournament on Wednesday, December 30.
Senior Tyler Evans finished in 4th place at 138 lbs. Evans pinned Cole Seaman in 3:05 in his first round match and was pinned in 2:34 by Connor Giavadoni in his second match before having his bye in the third round. Evans then lost back-to-back matches by fall to Jacob Sherman (1:59) and major decision (12-2) to Drew Peterman.
Junior Caleb Sinkler went 1-4 on the afternoon to finish in fifth place. Sinkler's win came in his third round match as he pinned Jared Wheeland in 1:34. Freshman Hunter Brown went 2-3 with a bye and a pin over Rory Foran of South Williamsport to finish sixth at 170 lbs.
Freshman Robert Brown also went 2-3 at 195 lbs. for a sixth place finish. Robert had a second round bye and then won an 8-5 decision over Hayden Beiter in the fifth round.
Senior Owen Covert had the best day for the Hornets as he finished in third place in the heavyweight division. Covert pinned South Williamsport's Noah Hartley in 1:22 in the first round, lost by fall in the second round, pinned Garrett Bennett in 54 seconds in the third round, lost a 3-2 decision in the fourth, then won the 3rd place match by pinning Matt Babcock in 1:05.
The Hornets resume their NTL schedule on Tuesday, January 5 on the road at Canton.
