The Wellsboro Varsity Softball team won their fifth straight game as they beat Liberty 15-2 on Monday, April 20.
The Lady Hornets jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first inning, but broke the game open with a six-run fourth inning for the NTL Division 1 win. Senior Paige Carr led the way for Wellsboro at the plate going 3-for-3 with an RBI. Senior Baylea Lehman was 2-for-3, Junior Darci Warriner was 2-for-4, and Senior Jordan Butters was 2-for-5 with three RBI's. Junior Jenny Young had 3 RBI's on the afternoon.
Junior Alexa Singer, Young, Lehman, Freshmen Sydney Tremper, Kailee Clymer, Brianne Keane, and Alyssa Yungwirth, Butters, and Carr all scored runs, while Warriner, Senior Peyton Wilson, and Junior Sarah Ingerick each crossed home plate twice.
Singer started the game on the mound for the Lady Hornets, giving up two runs on three hits to go along with a strikeout in three innings of work. Yungwirth came on in reilef for the final four innings, giving up only one hit on 74 pitches.
The Lady Hornets also won the JV game 5-1 to improve to 4-1. The Varsity team improves to 6-1 (3-1 NTL Division 1). The team will be back in action on Wednesday, April 22 as they travel to Northeast Bradford.
