The Wellsboro Varsity Softball team picked up their first win of the 2015 season with an 11-6 win over Canton on Monday, April 6.
Senior Jordan Butters hit a two-run home run in the first inning to start the scoring for the Lady Hornets, as they scored five runs in the first inning. Wellsboro got three more runs in the third inning and one each in the fifth and sixth innings to bring home the win.
Butters was 1-for-4 with 2 RBI's, Alexa Singer went 1-for-4 with a double and two runs, and Junior Sarah Ingerick was 1-for-4 with an RBI and three runs scored. Senior Peyton Wilson was 1-for-1 with 2 RBI's, Junior Jenny Young was 1-for-5, Senior Kaitlyn Sawyer was 2-for-3, Senior Paige Carr was 1-for-4, Senior Baylea Lehman was 1-for-4 with 2 RBI's and a run scored, and Junior Darci Warriner was 1-for-3 with an RBI.
Singer started on the mound and went the distance for he first win of the year. Singer struck out six and walked one and gave up 11 hits.
The Lady Hornets also won the JV game 7-0. Freshman Alyssa Yungwirth was 2-for-2 with an RBI and also picked up the win on the mound. Freshman Brianne Keane went 1-for-3 at the plate and Freshman Kailee Clymer was 1-for-2.
With the win, the Lady Hornets start the season with a 1-0 record. The team will be back in action on Wednesday, April 8 as they host Williamson.
