The Wellsboro Varsity Softball team scored a 5-1 win over Athens on Wednesday, May 6.
The Lady Horents' offense got a slow start on the night as they trailed 1-0 early, but they came alive in the fourth inning with two runs. Later in the game Wellsboro scored three more in the seventh to seal the victory.
Junior Sarah Ingerick went 3-for-4 with a doulbe and RBI to lead Wellsboro at the plate on the night. Senior Baylea Lehman was 2-for-3 with a triple and two RBI's, Junior Alexa Singer was 1-for-3 with an RBI, Junior Jenny Young was 1-for-4 with a double, Freshman Alyssa Yungwirth was 1-for-3 with an RBI, and Senior Jordan Butters was 1-for-3.
Young, Senior Lauren Bleggi, Junior Darci Warriner, Ingerick, and Butters all scored runs on the night.
Singer started on the mound and pitched a complete game for her 10th win of the season. In seven innings of work, Singer allowed one run (not earned) on three hits and struck out nine batters on 78 pitches.
With the win, the Lady Hornets improve to 15-1 (8-1 NTL Division 1) and icrease their win streak to 14 games. The team will be back in action on Friday, May 8 as they host Liberty on Senior Night.
