The Wellsboro Varsity Softball team finished the 2015 regular season with a 4-1 win over South Williamsport on Friday, May 15.
South Williamsport held a 1-0 lead as they scored on an error in the third inning, but Junior Jenny Young tied the game up in the fourth as she stole home on a wild pitch. Then, the Lady Hornets exploded for three runs in the fifth inning as Freshman Alyssa Yungwirth tripled to bring home two runs and Junior Sarah Ingerick also drove in a run.
Ingerick finished 3-for-3 with an RBI on the night, Young was 3-for-4 and Yungwirth added a hit and two RBIs. Junior Alexa Singer won her started and won her 11th game of the year, while Yungwirth came on in relief for the save as the duo combined on a three-hitter.
With the win, the Lady Hornets cap off their best season under head coach Greg Carr at 18-2. The team will have a coin flip with CMVT to determine if they are the number 1 seed heading into District IV playoffs next week at a time and place to be determined.
