The Wellsboro Cross Country teams traveled to Athens for their first NTL meet with the Wildcats and Sayre on Tuesday, September 15.
The Varsity girls took both races, beating Athens 26-29 and Sayre 15-50 while the Varsity boys lost 21-34 to Athens and beat Sayre 18-37. Sophomore Anna Bleggi won the girls race with a time of 22:05 followed by freshman Taylor Romania (23:43) in 3rd. Senior Camryn Keane (24:22) was 5th, senior Jordyn Coffee (25:58) was 8th, freshman Zoe Iseri (26:13) was 9th, and freshman Kara Doane (26:54) was 11th.
Senior Samantha Bailey finished in 12th with a time of 27:28, freshman Brooke Unangst (27:38) was 14th, freshman Rachel Chamberlain (27:38) was 15th, and freshman Dani Hunt (28:56) was 18th.
For the Varsity boys, freshman Aidan Perry finished 2nd (18:20), junior Alden Weiner (18:43) was 5th, junior Bryon Callahan (20:01) was 9th, sophomore Connor Brought (20:02) was 10th, freshman Zach Busch (21:46) was 14th, sophomore Kyle Wilson (23:07) was 18th, sophomore Logan Morral (25:20) was 21st, freshman Taylor Wheeler (26:70) was 23rd, and sophomore Noah Smith (34:46) was 24th.
In the Middle School races, the Wellsboro girls won both beating Athens 15-50 and Sayre 19-43. Jaime Palmer won the race with a time of 13:01. On the boys side, the Hornets won both matches 15-50 as Austin Richards (11:01) finished 1st.
The Varsity girls start the season at 2-0 (2-0 NTL) while the Varsity boys start at 1-1 (1-1 NTL). The team will be back in action this Saturday, September 19 at the Altoona Invite.
