The Wellsboro Lady Hornet softball team dropped their second game of the season as they fell to Troy 3-2 on Thursday, May 1.
Troy scored all three of their runs in the second inning to jump out to a 3-0 lead. The Lady Hornets struck back in the top of the fourth inning as Sophomore Alexa Singer led off with triple to right field. Sophomore Sarah Ingerick then brought her home with a sacrifice fly to cut it to 3-1.
Wellsboro would threaten again in the fifth and sixth innings.
They didn't score in the fifth but in the sixth Senior Brooke Kohler led off with a double. She would eventually score to cut it to 3-2 but that's as close as the Hornets got.
Singer would score the loss, going the first two innings to strike out three while allowing four hits, no walks, and two earned runs. Kohler came on for relief and gave up one walk and struck out three in the final four innings.
Kohler and Junior Jordan Butters had doubles while Senior Maggie Smith also had a hit.
With the loss the Lady Hornets fall to 10-2 (3-2 NTL Division 1). The team will be back in action today as they host Towanda.
