Junior Maggie Smith went 2-3 with a home run, double, and 3 RBI's as the Wellsboro Varsity softball team topped Cowanesque Valley, 7-3.
Earlier in the year, the Lady Hornets fell to CV 6-5 for their only loss in the NTL West, but it was a different story Monday as the girls pounded out 11 hits on the night and scored three runs in each of the first two innings en route to the victory.
Freshman Sarah Ingerick backed up Smith going 2-5 with 2 doulbes, 2 RBI's, and 3 runs scored and Sophomore Paige Carr went 2-4 at the plate. Sophomores Jordan Butters (1) and Baylea Lehman (2) each had hits and drove in runs. The Lady Hornets' remaining hits came from Freshmen Alexa Singer, Jenny Young, and Darci Warriner.
Singer went the distance on the mound for Wellsboro as she allowed 4 hits, struck out 5, walked 3, and gave up 3 runs (1 earned) on 112 pitches. The win is Singer's third on the year.
In the JV game, the Lady Hornets fell to CV 8-1.
With the win, the Lady Hornets improve to 9-5 (5-1 NTL West). The team will be back in action on Friday, May 10 as they host Williamson.
