The Wellsboro J.V. football team held on a goalline stand as time expired for a 14-8 victory over Sayre Monday night.
The Hornets struck first as Sophomore Quarterback Anthony Cooper connected with Junior Trystan Wheatley to put Wellsboro up 6-0 after the two-point conversion failed. The Hornets struk again as Sophomore Nick Tremper found the end zone to go up 12-0. At the end of the first half, Wellsboro led Sayre 12-8.
The lone score of the second half was a safety by the Wellsboro defense, as the team went on to lead 14-8 before picking up the win on the goalline stand as time expired.
With the win, the J.V. team improves to 4-2. The team will be back in action for their final game of the 2013 season as they host Towanda on Monday, October 28.
