The Wellsboro Varsity softball team scored 6 runs in the 2nd inning on their way to 10 runs and a win over Liberty Monday night in Wellsboro.
The Hornets scored two in the bottom of the first to take a lead, then made it 8-0 after the second. They added two more in the fifth to get the win.
Freshmen Jenny Young and Sarah Ingerick went 2-for-4 for the Hornets. Young had 3 RBI's and a run scored while Ingerick crossed home twice.
Sophomore Paige Carr, Junior Maggie Smith, Freshman Darci Warriner, Junior Brooke Kohler, Sophomore Baylea Lehman and Sophomore Peyton Wilson also had hits. Smith, Kohler, Lehman and Wilson both scored twice while Smith added 3 RBI's. Carr had 2 RBI's while Warriner knocked in a run.
Freshman Alexa Singer got the win, going four innings for four strike outs, one walk and one hit. Kohler pitched the fifth with two strikeouts.
In the JV game, the the Lady Hornets fell to Liberty 6-5.
With the win, the Lady Hornets improve to 2-1 (1-0 NTL West). The team will be back in action on Wednesday, April 10 as they travel to Cowanesque Valley.
