The Wellsboro cross country teams traveled to Cowanesque Tuesday to compete with the Indians and Mansfield.
The girls team won 19-48 against CV, but lost 40-18 to Mansfield. Sophomore Jada Jackson was the top runner for the Lady Hornets in 3rd place with a time of 24:05. Sophomore Jordyn Coffee was the next highest finishing Hornet in 8th place (25:13), followed by Sophomore Camryn Keane in 10th (25:20), Junior Caitlynn Butler in 11th (25:21), Senior Charlotte Worthington in 12th (25:22), Sophomore Samantha Bailey in 13th (26:08), Senior Baylee Mann in 14th (26:22), and Freshman Janessa Davis in 15th (27:03).
On the boys side, the Hornets fell to CV 33-24 and won 15-50 against Mansfield. The team was led by Senior Joey Doganiero, who finished in 1st place with a time of 19:56. Freshman Joey Messmer had his best finish of the year so far in 3rd (20:51), Junior Dalton Messmer was 8th (23:05), Freshman Alden Weiner was 10th (23:44), and Sophomore David Zavetsky was 11th (24:18).
In the Middle School race, Wellsboro won both 15-0 as Cowanesque or Mansfield didn't have full teams.
The Varsity girls team begins the 2013 league season at 1-1, while the boys start out 1-1. The teams will be back in action on Tuesday, September 17 as they compete against Northeast Bradford and Wyalusing.
